It’s funny I was looking for a quick and easy recipe for dinner the other night so I stepped in front of the computer like so many of us do and started to type in a Google search to start. The funny thing was that I did not even have to type past the quick and easy part as Google did their magic guess work and you could see that just typing quick and easy the assumption was that I was looking for a recipe. Things like quick and easy recipes, quick and easy dinners, quick and easy appetizers and quick and easy desserts all came up as top search assumptions for quick and easy.
It struck me as funny because I can think of a lot of other things to go after that quick and easy statement none of which have anything to do with food. I suppose that is where the majority of the world is right now thought. We have little time for making those long complicated meals that have more that five ingredients in them. That is a common theme for quick and easy recipes isn’t it? What can I make a meal with as little work and effort that I can put out or with the way the economy is right now, putting the cheapest meal together night after night is a real big priority for a lot of families right now.
Are we all about the fast food now a days and the quick and easy meals? Is the traditional old world style meal really a thing of the past? Maybe if we spent more time with slow and well thought out meals that we would not be in such an un-healthy status quot and living in the land of the obese. Do you think the quick and easy meals are part of the cause or reason shall we say for the rise in obese and unhealthy people in the world? Sure quick and easy meals are great time savers and money savers but at what cost really? Long term I wonder if it is indeed better for us to save time and money in spite of the long term health effects it may be having on all us.
As good and as tasty as a lot of the quick and easy recipes are I do wonder how skipping out on some of those extra ingredients are effecting my healthy long term. I hope not as I sure do cook or buy a lot of them
I still like to spend a full day in the kitchen once in a while and cook a full on meal that involves more that four or five ingredients. Problem is that those meals are usually the holiday meals and those only come around a few times every year.
Anyway the quick and easy meal we settled on that day involved the oven roaster chicken that we picked up at the supermarket a few days ago. By the way those oven roaster chickens that you see at all the supermarkets, Costco and Sam’s clubs are awesome! They only cost about four to six dollars and we usually get quite a few dinners out of those birds too. We usually make quick and easy meals that involve some chicken but don’t require a whole bird. We will make some quick and easy pastas with chicken and diced red peppers which is what we had the other night
Or sometimes we will whip up a quick and easy salad again with pieces of that whole roasted chicken thrown in to add some protein and flavor of course. Actually as I think about the last few whole chicken roasters that we have purchased I can not remember the last time we sat down and ate that chicken as a meal. Now that I think of it the whole roasted chicken has become a main ingredient in our quick and easy meal plan at our home
